American President Barack Obama introduced major changes to the country's health care system, leaving many citizens confused as to how they will be impacted by the reforms.
A new website, however, hopes to serve as a one-stop shop for all information related to the delivery of health care services in the United States and changes to Medicare and Medicaid.
Entitled "Health Care and You," the new site is a project launched jointly by a handful of medical organisations, including the American Cancer Society and the American Medical Association.
The website offers information on health insurance coverage in each state, pointing the public to the best resources available in localities throughout the country.
In an effort to offer added usability, the development also has a special focus on cancer and aspects of Obama's health care reform that could lead to better prevention programmes, by exploring the options available to manage risk and get a quicker, better diagnosis.
Many of the services that can help people of all ages detect or prevent cancer are often available at no extra cost, including mammograms and colonoscopies.
The website provides information on free medical services, which can be of special importance to low-income Americans without private health care coverage, who are often forced to consider the financial implications before seeing a doctor or obtaining medical care of any kind.
The new website also includes a "timeline" tool which helps Americans track how Obama's reform will introduce gradual changes to their health care coverage, starting this year and ending in 2018.
