Facebook is offering third party websites a new way to invite their readers to comment on their articles and blog posts.
The new plug-in distributed by the world's largest social media website offers a significantly improved user experience over its earlier version, and gives webmasters, site administrators and bloggers more control over the moderation of incoming comments.
Additionally, a recently developed algorithm that determines the order in which individual posts appear has also been added as a feature.
Obtaining a copy of the Facebook comments plug-in is a relatively easy and convenient process, involving copying and then pasting a special Facebook code into the target website's editor program.
But unlike comment programs offered by blogging platforms such as Wordpress and Blogger, Facebook's version ensures that messages posted by the website owner's friends and contacts are displayed more prominently near the top of the comments section. Friends of friends will also be given special consideration, compared to the contributions of complete strangers or anonymous users.
The comments plug-in will offer a spam filter, as well as an ability to rank users based on how others rated their contributions.
The plug-in's overall usability is also increased by the fact that it incorporates some of the information found on Facebook profiles. Basic, publicly available information including dates of birth, occupation, educational background data, as well as hometowns will be added to each comment, giving users, bloggers and website administrators a better idea than ever before of the people submitting feedback to their posts.
The plug-in is now available to Facebook users and bloggers, and includes an integrated dashboard for the moderation of incoming comments.
