When it comes to mobile applications that focus on gaming, Android has turned into a clear and undisputed international leader, according to statistics released in a new online technology report.
Android now controls approximately 50 per cent of the mobile gaming market and a separate study shows that it seems to be rapidly gaining in popularity, especially when compared to iPhone, its main rival.
Statistics compiled by Market Force Information also suggest that more smartphone users would make their future mobile device purchase an Android than any other brand or product. This is thought, in the main, to be as a result of the usability of the operating system.
In fact, while 34 per cent indicated that their first choice in mobiles would be an Android, only 21 per cent chose an iPhone and just 12 per cent planned to buy a Blackberry.
These figures may provide useful information for developers seeking the best market and platform through which to sell their applications and mobile tools.
But the good news for brands seeking to build a much larger customer base is that one quarter of all mobile users are not yet committed to a specific manufacturer or operating system, opening the way for greater competition and opportunity for Android in particular to expand its market share in the years to come.
The Market Force survey is considered to be one of the more significant such internet studies conducted in recent months, as the research firm reached out to 5,600 people, in order to obtain a large sampling of response.
Android is also leading the way in mobile gaming technology, as four out of five most popular smartphones use the Google-bases operating system.
